Laala Kashef Alghata is an Bahraini author and journalist. She began writing from an early age, by handing out pamphlets of short stories to friends at nine years old. She has published three books, the first of which made her the first Bahraini to publish a novel in English and at 13, the youngest author at the time. Her second book, Behind the Mask: A Folded Heart, was a collection of poetry and prose. She has also been published online and has had her work included in several anthologies, including Gathering the Gulf. She has also given lectures on poetry for both university and high school students.
Cupid's Rage is a collection of poetry on life and love, the shields we create to battle Cupid’s furious arsenal of arrows and finding ways to heal when our cracks are discovered. The collection was put together from poetry written between 2008 to 2011, both in Bahrain and in Scotland. It is inspired by love primarily, but also delves into anxiety, depression and other matters of the heart.
We look forward to seeing you all at the book signing and reading but in the meantime enjoy a short extract from one of the anthology's poems entitled Dali's Rose which was inspired by Dali's Rose Meditative:
The rose hangs in the air,
in the balance of probability,
bleeding beauty gently
into its surroundings.
that loved not at first sight?
